Hi besties 🤍 today we are talking about over thinking. Believe it or not, this is very common. We want to create a space where you feel safe and hopefully us being vulnerable brings you in that directions. We share our struggles of having a crowded mind, what it does when we are looking at our thoughts more than God, and a moment in the Bible where Jesus experienced the wrestling of thoughts and Gods will. We hope you don’t feel alone and know that you still have a seat at the table with Jesus, even in the middle of overthinking. We love you and hope you enjoy the episode!
Hey Besties! Hey Bestie! Welcome back to Jesus and Besties! We're back!
SPEAKER_01I'm Tatiana.
SPEAKER_00I'm Jasmine.
SPEAKER_01Welcome back.
SPEAKER_00Yay! We're back. Uh how y'all been? We've been good. We've been sick. We've been sick.
SPEAKER_01Well, I've been sick, but we're we're back. We're good. Mm-hmm. We're faith. We're full of faith than ever. That's not funny. Because I said we're full of faith. And then I started laughing. I was like, wait, that's not funny. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00No, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm a little um deluly right now and I'm a little hungry.
SPEAKER_00Oh, we're about to eat right now.
SPEAKER_01It's okay, we're gonna eat right now. But um welcome, welcome. Today's episode is A Crowded Mind. That's what it's called. We're gonna be talking about overthinking and anxiety. I feel like mostly overthinking because the anxiety like stems from it for all for us at least. Yeah. But I feel like um I feel like overthinking is so on so common. I don't know why I thought it wasn't.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, overthinking is definitely super common. So we wanted to just record a podcast that talks about like the overthinking mind and anxious thoughts and um how it can really just create something bigger than it is, you know? Yeah, um, so it's really important to be able to recognize that and say, oh, like I'm actually overthinking right now, like Lord, which is obviously easier said than done. Definitely, but at the end of the day, um, we try our best, right? Yeah, so we want to just help encourage you guys and us too, because again, we've just talked in our last episode about how um we feel like we're in a wilderness season, so I think like ang anxious thoughts and and um overthinking have a lot to do with that as well, you know?
SPEAKER_01I feel yeah, I feel like that's a tool that the enemy uses I feel like a lot lately too, especially in the wilderness season. It's um we're just so vulnerable.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it's not hard to believe these thoughts, and I feel like it's either the enemy or us, but even when it's the enemy, it I I'll be in a spoke for myself. It doesn't take much for him to just dangle a thought and I just run with it, and I just okay Me too.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so I'm like, wait, oh my gosh, and then I go down like a rabbit hole.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, so just being aware, but also creating a space that it's okay. Um not giving like a uh the permission to overthink, but it's okay if you do if you struggle with it.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, we could learn, you know, we all can learn about how we can overcome it. Yeah, overcome it, and and a lot of it and most of it obviously is is relying on the Lord, and that's one thing to also learn. It's not easy to do it, it's super hard to be like, Lord, I trust you. I could say sometimes, and sometimes I'm like, I trust you, and then I'm like holding on to my anxious thoughts, and I'm like, you know, it's super hard, but at the end of the day, um we try our best and and the Lord will will definitely help us through it.
SPEAKER_01I feel like for me, like it's not necessarily like situations, it's me. It's me too. So like I'll go into the situation and it'll be fine, like it's smooth sailing, it's the best that could have ever gone. But leading up to that, my mind is thinking of every worst case scenario, and I'm like, oh, I could just see this happening, I could see this happening because for some reason I think I'm helping myself because I'm trying to mentally prepare for a bad outcome. Does that make sense? Yeah, and then the situation comes and it's like, oh yeah, no, this is fine. And I'm like, You did all that for nothing, like overthinking, but I'm glad. I'm not the worst of the worst.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, oh, and then I'm like, and I start like thinking just more and more, and I'm like, okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but it's weird. I feel like I'm like, because in my mind, with overthinking like that specifically, I feel like I'm like protecting myself in a way because I'm preparing myself for the worst case scenario, but it's like that's not good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's really not. You're only making it worse. Because I can just spiral, but anyways, I spiral all the time, midday. Don't I? All the time when I spiral it's like 12.
SPEAKER_01We both we both do.
SPEAKER_00No, you're calmer when I spiral because you're working. Yeah, and I'm like I'm like texting her, just like all my anxious thoughts.
SPEAKER_01No and then at the end, sometimes I try and answer. I feel like Lily, I've been trying to answer, but um I'll answer either right away or at the end of the day.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00I love when I have like oh my god. I love when I have a bunch of mismatching. I'm like, oh, I was sparreling like two hours ago talking about it.
unknownJust kidding.
SPEAKER_00No, oh my gosh, no, I love it. Let's get started. So what is an anxious thought that you constantly overthink?
SPEAKER_01For me, it is I think we were talking about this the other day, um, and you stopped me in the middle of me explaining it, which I'm glad you did. I was basically saying, like, I feel like I'm useless, and all I talked about in the last episode, but I'm getting over a cold, so I'm in my room a lot, I'm resting, so it's just me and my thoughts. So I feel like those these thoughts specifically have been louder. But um I was just telling Jasmine, I feel like the Lord is like just throwing his hand, like, dude, I'm running out of options with this one. Like, she's you know, she's not doing it the way she's supposed to. It also comes from comparison, yeah. Um, but just seeing other people and their walk. Um I'm getting I got invited to three weddings this year, um, coming up here in June. So like that has brought up a lot of like, am I doing something wrong that I'm not finding anybody? Like, I genuinely feel like I I'll be enjoying this season of just me and the Lord, but then like that happened, and I'm like, wait, am I on time or am I like off of your timeline? And I was just like talking about that to Jasmine, and she was like, you know what? I actually really quick I saw something on social media that like God never thinks of you like that, like He never runs out of options, He is an almighty God. So um I I think for yeah, I think for just me, like I always get worried like if I'm like too far gone when we go to the prophetic appointments at our church, like I go in there like thinking, like, Lord, I honestly like don't care what they say, I just want to know you're like pleased with me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And every single appointment, they've said that. Like, that's the only thing like I worry about. But I think just that, like, Lord, are you pleased with me? Like, I don't want to be like the children of Israel waiting for 40 years because they were stubborn. Ooh, that's it's that that I think of. Like, I I don't want to end up like that. Um but just worried and concerned because you see, especially when you're around so many other people who they're getting things that you're praying for. I know you've been kind of going through that too. Yeah. Like thinking that. Um and it just and you're happy for them and you're so excited for them, but you're just you know, when you're alone, you just you can't help but wonder, like, Lord, when is it like my turn?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then for me, my thought is like, Am I doing something wrong? I know I'm not perfect, but like I feel like the Lord is just throwing his hands up, like, I don't know what to do with this one.
SPEAKER_00Like, she's just yeah, my weird one, or like, you know, she's like, and you know, it's like what I saw on in Instagram, or it was like something, I don't even know, but like it's a great reminder of like our God is the same God that led Moses, you know? Yeah, and like it's just wow, like that's my god, like you know, it just gives me a good reminder. Like, our God is such a good, loving, amazing God that doesn't look down at us and like, oh man, what am I gonna do? Like, I'm running out of options. Like, what can it what can I do to to help her? It's like he doesn't stress about that, like he knows exactly what he's gonna do. He can do anything and everything, and it is possible, you know what I mean? And I think that is like such a good thing to think about, too. That video that I saw. Yeah, because it's like, you know what? That is so right, like you know, my God led Moses, like my God can do what people think is impossible, like it is possible for him, and um it's such a good, comforting like thought. Like, you know, like we limit God and we put him in a box, and it's like because we can't do it, we think the Lord can't do it, and it's like, no, we better remember who the Lord is, like, he is so good, and he can do anything, and so I think it's just like us, it's an us thing where we just limit him in this box in our minds, and we're like, wait, like, no, you have we have to really just take a step back sometimes. You know what? I'm gonna throw this box away because there is no box that we can, you know, there's nothing that can limit him, and so I think that is um just something that um we we should remember, especially as overthinkers, is like we try to because we can't think of it and it's out of our control, we think the Lord can't control that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, there's this song um that I've been that I love so much. It's um it's called Ancient of Days by Lizzie Morgan, and this worship song, it's literally just who he is. Like it talks about how you're the ancient of days, you're the same yesterday, today, you reigned forever. It's and I know there's those worship songs that I love listening to about what the Lord will do for us, which are incredible. But this there's something about this song. I was sitting in my room and I was just like, I was craving. I was like, I need to just talk to God, like the social media is not doing it, like I need to talk to God. And I just cried in my bed for like an hour, and I had this song playing over and over again because I was thinking about that message from young adults a few weeks ago when he was talking about our thoughts and facing them. I was that's what was happening. I was like, Yeah, you just you need to face your thoughts and think of God's promises, and I just kept replaying that song over and over again. I would pause and rewind it when it was almost over because I needed to hear that in the background. Like, you are the same yesterday, today. Nothing surprises you. Um, you will reign forever. So that's so good. That's something that's for me. What about you?
SPEAKER_00It reminds me for me. Um, so my anxious thought that I constantly overthink is just like I don't know. I overthink everything, just little things, little things like are so big in my mind, like nothing crazy, but like I don't know. I overthink like um sometimes let me see. What do I overthink? Oh my gosh, I don't know, it's just a lot that I can't think right now. Um just like the way that I'm living like my life, like um, I overthink like just my life in general, like how I am as a person, if people like me, um, like outcomes to certain things um that are going on in my life right now. Um, obviously the desire to get married and stuff, like I start to really just like overthink that. Like, what if I never get married? What if I never have kids? What if I, you know, and I'm I'm slowly learning, and I think the Lord is like slowly teaching me, like it's gonna happen. Um, and I'm Lord has placed people in my life where I've had conversations with and they're like, enjoy this moment, like enjoy this time with the Lord. He just wants to dance with you a little longer. Um, so I try to like not overthink the whole things of what I want because I think I overthink the things that I want, how I'm gonna get there, and try to control the whole situation instead of giving it to the Lord. Um, so I just overthink little things, like I can never sit still and like not think of something. That's why I always think of a lot of side quests because I'm literally like, oh my god, what do I like? You know what I mean? Like the other day I was like, okay, I'm gonna take a nap. Then I'm like staring at the ceiling and I'm like, I'm gonna make some tortillas. Like, do you know what I mean? So it's just like a lot of little overthinking things, um, which aren't like super anxious thoughts unless it's a scary thought. Um, but like for me, I do get like a little scared and anxious when it comes to like my overthinking and like my faith. I don't know why I have like and I know it's the enemy, but it's like, am I not a true believer? Like, am I not like if like is my faith fake? Like, I don't know. I just like had these thoughts of like just certain things and I overthink it and I go down like a rabbit hole, and so just things like that, those are kind of like my overthinking thoughts, but they're just a lot of little things that like don't really matter, but like I make them big in my head. Um, things that like I know I can let go and let the Lord work, but I'm just like but I just kind of wanted to like show you um about like what we were talking about. Yeah, how like we have been like we we just get anxious and stuff, but um I don't know. I just thought this like little verses these verses in Jeremiah were just um encouraging. What is it? I wanted to throw it's Jeremiah um 31, where it just I'm gonna read three different ones 31 um 3 where it says the Lord appeared to us in the past saying, I have loved you with an everlasting love, I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Um, and then I saw another one that says um Let me see, Jeremiah um 31 13, where it just says, I will turn their mourning into gladness. Like, I don't know, I feel like sometimes we mourn like certain things where we feel like grief and we're and start overthinking of like certain situations that we're grieving. Um, like for me, like this past like Mother's Days was like sad for some reason. I was just like grieving um in different ways. Um, that was just sad, like I want this and I have this desire, and I feel like I was kind of like just you know, and he will turn that into gladness is like something that I kind of wanted to like add on here. And it says, I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow. Um, I will satisfy the priest with abundance, and my people will be filled with my bounty. So, like, God sees her pain, God sees our anxious thoughts, God sees um what we're thinking when we're laying at bed in bed late night, overthinking, tossing and turning. Um, like Lord, I don't know if I'm gonna get this job interview or this job or do good at this interview tomorrow. I don't know if um how I'm gonna pay this bill. Like he sees all of the things that we overthink, and I think that these are just over, you know, um, that these are just comforting where it says restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded. Um a lot of the times, like he doesn't ignore the tears that we ignore, like anxious thoughts can make us cry, anxious thoughts can make us weep, where it's just like we feel this sorrow, right? Um, and so I think like you know, it's good to remember like God still calls Israel in this in Jeremiah. Like, even though Israel like turned to different idols, right? Um, he he still called them his beloved child. That's how he sees us. He he corrects us, right? Um, but he still loves us and and he cares for us, he cares about our anxious thoughts that we're having, and so I think that this was just kind of like comforting um how like anxious thoughts can make us sad and and sorrow and you know, but he sees that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, can you share what you saw um in that video of, or I don't know if it was a video, but someone explaining about how the Lord wants to dance with you and your husband will like he'll let you go with your husband or something like that. Cause you said earlier today you were like he just wants to dance with you a little longer. Yeah, so I thought because I was really good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so guys, like one of my anxious thoughts has just been like, um, I mean, again, I've it's gotten better, um, but it's you guys all know this because of the past episodes and stuff in the season that I'm in my life right now. Um, but it's just like getting married and and having the desire or strong desire of having kids, and so for me, like it was like something consuming my mind so much, um, where I wanted it more than and I would say like maybe like um I'm barely kind of like working through it, but I wanted it more than anything else, and I don't think that should be the way that goes. I should want the Lord more than than anything. Um, but how like people tell me like the Lord just wants um I think it was like today, like the Lord. I think I was talking to a friend, she was saying, like, you're not missing out on anything, like marriage is so hard. Um, it's beautiful, but it's so hard, and kids are amazing, but it's she's Christian, right? She's Christian, yeah. She was like, but like enjoy this moment that you have. She's like, it's if I'm being honest, it's hard to find my alone time with the Lord right now because I'm constantly like, Mom, mom, mom, you know, and uh so she's just like, it's hard, yeah. But um, she's like, enjoy this time that you have with him, and she did like say, like, I was telling her that too, because I've heard it so much from people, like, he just wants to dance with you a little longer, like he just wants to, like she said today, he is a jealous god, and he just wants you with him a little bit more because he knows, like, he he knows it's gonna be our my last season. I believe I truly believe it's gonna be my last season. Um, with it's just gonna be me and him, and so he just wants to dance with me, he just wants to dance with me a little bit longer until he gives me away to uh my husband, and it's obviously not gonna be, you know, um, where me and the Lord are not gonna have a relationship, right? We will continue to have that relationship. But as it says, what was I reading in First Corinthians where Paul is talking about um marriage, married people and unmarried people? They are both a gift, and he wishes that we may, you know, we stay single like him. Oh, but I know that but um you know he says like but he says it in there, you know, like that once we're married, you're gonna have responsibilities, you're gonna have kids that you are also going to be split your time with your kids, with your your husband, but you also have that time with the Lord, it's just not gonna be fully devoted to the Lord, right? Um, and so those are just things that I um have been remembering and um when I get anxious thoughts when it comes to like, what if I never get married? Like, I obviously start thinking about like Lord, what if you are calling me to like be like Paul? And I'm like, I don't want that.
SPEAKER_01I cannot see, I cannot see. Like, I I see you like Paul, like that boldness, but like not the single no, I I don't see that husband lord. Yeah, yeah, definitely. No, that's good. No, I love that. I saw a sermon a few years ago, his name is Robert Medou, and he was talking about singleness, and he used this illustration, guys. One thing about me is I love props when a pastor or someone comes up to speak and they got props. I'm like, oh, we're gonna cook. Like, I'm so excited. I'm definitely a visual learner. But I remember he brought a basketball up and he was basically talking about how, like, when you were single, you're playing ball with God, and he had somebody in the audience throw it to him, and he's like, I can catch this with both hands. It's the same thing with God, like that call on your life, that um thing that he's put on your heart, being obedient to his word, like you can catch it with both hands. Now, when you're married, and he brought his wife up and he he held her hand and he loves his wife, but he held her hand and he held the ball in one hand.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And he was saying, like, how he was dribble, he wasn't holding her hand like he was dribbling, he could dribble with both hands. And him and God, like the guy in the audience, um, were going back and forth, and it was really quick. And he, you know, was saying how he does not have any other responsibilities other than just focusing on God, and then his wife came up, and you dribble different with one hand. Yeah, you dribble a little slower.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um you gotta pay attention a little more so you don't lose the ball, you know. But holding his wife's hand, he said, like, this is beautiful too, whether you're holding the ball with two hands or one, like it they're both beautiful, so don't despise the season you're in, whether you're married or you're single, and he was specifically talking to singles. You know, this season is beautiful, it's fruitful, and it's amazing. It's not a curse, you know. So um, it's a very too, yeah, a very good um visual visualization explaining that.
SPEAKER_00So I love that. It was good, yeah. So good. Um, how has overthinking affected your walk?
SPEAKER_01I just I get in my own way, yeah. Like with the thoughts. It's just like and I'll be fine, but then like a thought will come, and again, it's it could be me or it could be the enemy. Yeah. Um and I just I will go for like a good 20 minutes or 30 minutes, and I'm like, oh, I didn't think of it like this. And it's like, you know, and especially like being sick when you're just sitting there and your mind just wanders, yeah. Right. So, like how um the Bible says taking every thought captive is something that I want to try and start learning on a different level. Um Because overthinking is real and um it could link to it can be linked to a lot of like anxiety and then by the end of the day I'm like, what am I worried about that for? And there's um in Freedom Prayer I learned about like the left side and the right side of the brain. The left side is like the logic side, and then the right side I believe is like the emotional side. So like emotion sits there, trauma sits there, and like by the end of the day, I'm like overthinking, and then like the logic side comes in, it's like how can that even happen because of this? And I'm like, I spent my whole day, or you know, my whole lunch hour thinking about something that is basically impossible, yeah, because this is real life, and I kind of like snap back into reality. So I just I feel like I just get in my own way.
SPEAKER_00Me too.
SPEAKER_01Um yeah, what about you?
SPEAKER_00Um, I just like clout it, it I just let it affect me to where it like clouts my mind and it distracts me. Um so I'm like super easily distracted. I'm like swirl, like all the time, and like I'm just like, oh gosh, la la la. And then the Lord is like, I'm over here, like get over here. You know what I mean? So I just think like I'm always just like wandering and and I just start overthinking and it's affected my walk because um it clouds my mind, it clouds my discernment, it clouds, you know, all of that. And so um, because I let it affect me, right? And obviously, it's not easy to be like, oh, I'm just not gonna let it affect me. We're human, we're human, we feel these human thoughts, we feel the I mean, we we have these human thoughts, we have, we feel these human feelings, and so for us to be like, oh, I'm just gonna let it go, you know. Sometimes I'm overthinking, and I'm literally like, Lord, I am just going to lay this at your feet, and I'm gonna have to lay it at your feet every five seconds today because I am just overthinking, I'm just it's consuming my brain, it's consuming my time that I should be spending with you. So it's just like um that's how it's affected me is my time with the Lord because I'm letting these overthinking thoughts just take over, and obviously the enemy loves that, and um, we just have to keep learning how to be proactive when it comes to dealing with these thoughts. It's not us really dealing with it, but it's like giving it to the Lord, like, Lord, help me deal with this. Yeah, and it's even like prophetically doing it, like Lord, here I give you this, I give you my anxious thoughts about this, I give you my anxious thoughts about money, I give you my anxious thoughts about my bills, I give you my anxious, you know? Like, there's just so many things that can go on in our minds that we could be worried about that we're trying to control the outcome to, but ultimately we give it to dad, you know? Yeah, so yeah. Um, how do you know when you focus more on the thoughts than God?
SPEAKER_01I think for me it's like when anxiety and comparison start coming in. Yeah. And it gets really loud. I think you're like, oh, and sometimes yeah, and I think sometimes like with thoughts and desires, you I was thinking about it earlier when you said this, but I think with thoughts and desires, it's not they're not necessarily the problem, it's the placement of them. Yeah. So I and giving myself that grace, there is nothing wrong with this deep desire to be a husband and to be a mom. I want to be a mom so bad. Um it's just you can't put it before God, you know, because you need that wisdom and discernment and you know who you're picking and looking for the because the godly habits, because they're the ones who are gonna lead and stuff like that. So it's it's not there's nothing wrong with them, but it's the placement of them. And I think when the placement is out of order and God is not, you know, at the top, that's when it starts to get crazy. So I think for me, like when I I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I've literally been overthinking to the point where I get a headache. Wow. So I think when I start to feel um just really anxious and I start comparing over the dumbest thing, and when I'm like, well, you know what, let me just get on social media and distract myself. When I start just frantically looking for a distraction, there's like a panic that's going on. Um, because I know I'm overthinking, but I'm like, I'm like kind of trapped because of this thought. I just created this whole scenario in my head, and what if this really happens, you know? So for me, that's when I start to go, okay, just put on a worship song or a podcast, and you know, just listen and distract yourself like that instead of like scrolling and then just come down, like you know. So that's yeah, that's for me. What about you?
SPEAKER_00For me, I would say, um, so how do you know what when you were focused more on the thought than God? I would say when I kind of like start thinking about it all day, like you know what I mean? All day, and it's like when the thought is thought about more than God. So, like, you know, sometimes I'd obviously like you know, throughout the day you talk to the Lord, you pray, you listen to worship music, you um, you know, but I know it's consuming me and affecting me and and um my relationship with the Lord when I'm thinking about that more than um I am thinking about the Lord and connecting with the Lord throughout the day. Yeah. And like one of the pastors even at church was saying, like, if you even forget to pray like throughout the day, like we should continuously be praying, right? And um, like it's just I just want to throw it out because I I think that's a good idea too. If like you're so focused on other thoughts or anxious thoughts throughout the day, is like to put an alarm clock to pray. Like that's okay. You know what I mean? To just like put an alarm clock, like just pray so you know when you're gonna pray throughout the day to talk to the Lord. And I think that was like a good idea too that she threw out. Because I was like, wait, that's super good, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01It is a good idea, well.
SPEAKER_00So, um yeah, are are there any ways that you have learned to overcome the anxious thoughts? Like, how what do you do to overcome like um your anxious thoughts that you're having?
SPEAKER_01I think for me it's that song I mentioned earlier, Ancient of Days, just because of what it's saying. Like it's it's saying like you're the same yesterday, today, and also just reminding myself um that like God is not upset with you. Um and then even just saying, like, God, I am so glad you lived as a human. Yeah, because you know, and we'll we're we're gonna read it in a little bit, but um you experienced all of this, you were tempted with all of this, um, and there's just a comfort, and we've even mentioned a few times like our friend group is kind of going through a little bit of a um spiritual dryness too. There is like a comfort in that because you know, like when we are going to explain ourselves, like we don't have to say much because it's like, oh I know, I know what you're talking about. Like when we went to Walmart and Target the other night, and you were saying I was like, Oh like girl, I'm in that same exact boat. And I just started reflecting, like, I'm actually really glad we're going through the same thing, and that we can like lean on each other because we're not judging each other or looking at the other person, like you know, you need to like relax. It's like, no, I feel the same exact thing.
SPEAKER_00We know, yeah.
SPEAKER_01We and as Jasmine was talking, I was literally like this like checklist in my mind. I was like, Okay, I'm not crazy, I'm not crazy, I feel the same. I you know, so there is a comfort in that, and then like overall, Jesus going through all of that, it's very, very comforting. We talked about um how he was in the wilderness the last episode and how he was tempted and he understands what that's like, so there's a lot of comfort in that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, he does understand. He he he knows exactly what um we we go through and what we feel. Um, so for me, I would say like how to um how I've learned to overcome is like giving it to the Lord, even if I have to do it like a million times that day. Um, and then also like you were talking about a song the other day. I was like reading my Bible and I happened to be reading like I think it was like First Peter, if I'm remembering correctly. Um was reading the cast all anxieties on him, right? And I get a text from a friend and she's like, Can you pray for me? I have like just anxiety today. And I'm like, you know, so I'm like, wait, that's perfect. I just read this verse, I you know, gave it to her, and and as I was texting her back when she texted me, I had a song I had never heard before came up, and it's called Song for the Anxious Heart. And I just thought that I was like, wow, like you know, just a good reminder. It I was I'm just gonna read a couple of the lyrics to you guys, but it says, um, where it says above, like, there's a name I will say, there's a name I will call, just one name above it all. Jesus, Prince of Peace. Like, we have to remind ourselves when we are anxious, like our God is the Prince of Peace. Like, he has all of the peace that we we would want to feel, right? And he can give that to us. And so um, we we like I don't know, that was a great reminder where it just even says, like, this is a song for the fractured soul, fighting back depression. This is a song for the bird in life, waiting on the light. There's a name above all, um, and that's Prince of Peace. He, I'll sing your name for only you can calm the storm in me. You are all I need, and so I think in the midst of just a chaotic mind, if you are anything like me and it's like a little tornado up in there, um, I think it's like really important to remember like we have a God and he is the Prince of Peace, he will calm all the storm. Like, so it kind of reminds me of when they were on the boat, and they're like, He's sleeping on the boat, and there's a storm, and they're freaking out, they're anxious, they're rocking, they're scared, and they're like, Oh my gosh, he's sleeping on the boat, you know what I mean? And he's like, you know what I mean? Like, it's okay, and to be that calm, like he is our peace, and it's like so um obviously we forget that, you know, we forget that sometimes because we are so caught up in these anxious thoughts. Like, if I'm being honest, I forget that. I'm like, man, like I'm so anxious with this, this, and this. I'm letting it consume my mind. But I mean, we serve a God who is so big and and and comforting and and loving, and you know, we can just call on him, and a lot of the times I can kind of miss that, you know. Yeah, instead of like calling on him, I'm like, oh, what do I what's the procedure? Like in the office. What if I stay comb? So yeah, do you want to read? Um, we wanted to read how um a part where Jesus is in the garden before he was gonna get arrested, which is Matthew 26, 36 to 46.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Um then Jesus went with them to the olive grove olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, Sit here while I go over here to pray. He took Peter and Zebedee's two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. He told them, My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me. He went on a little further and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine. Then he turned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said, Peter, couldn't you watch with me even for one hour? Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to the temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak. And then Jesus left them a second time and prayed, My Father, if this cup cannot be taken from me, unless I drink it, your will be done. Then he returned to them again. He found them sleeping, for they couldn't keep their eyes open. So he went to pray a third time, saying the same things again. Then he came back to the sti the disciples and said, Go ahead and sleep. Have your rest, but look, the time has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Up, let's be going. Look, my betrayer is here.
SPEAKER_00So on my notes that I have here where it says, like, well, where he says, My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Like he is being completely honest. Yeah. Like he is so full, you know, of these feelings, right? And it's overwhelming. And on my notes, I put like he knew what was coming, like he knew the cross was coming for the first time. Like, we see him open up, like, and express deep emotional, like anguish, right? And he's being honest, and I think that's how we should be with our anxious thoughts in the midst of of chaotic, um, you know, emotional thoughts. We need to pray and and say, Lord, like help us, right, with these thoughts. Yeah, and just like he did, and the thing that prepared him was prayer. He prayed, and I feel like for me, when I read this, it's like that's one of the main things that helped him get through this scary part in his life was was um praying, and and and that helped him build the the strength and to go through with it because he knew we could be overwhelmed and still be dependent on him, right? Um, and and letting all of our feelings go to him. So I just like put on here like Jesus was not overpowered, he was submitted. So I just thought um this was good, like on here, you know. He was just steady, and I feel like the reason why he was steady when he came back and and continued with obviously knowing what was coming was was the prayer fully relying on God.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Something that's sticking out to me actually is um that he prayed these things again and again.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it's and I always I always wonder that because somewhere um I think where the G where Jesus where the Jesus where Jesus is telling the Pharisees you guys stand out in the corner and you just blab. Like they're looking to um impress people. So I always wondered, I'm like, Lord, is that like I mean I'm not trying to impress people, but is it does it grieve you when I repeat myself and hear like I'm just seeing? I'm like, oh no, absolutely not, because he's praying these things over again. He's questioning him in a way, is it if it's possible let this cup take be taken away from me? Um but he also just shows that he has that trust. If it's your will, just let it be done, not mine. So yeah, I think that's which is like and that's how we should pray, guys.
SPEAKER_00It's like I obviously want a tall, handsome husband, right? If you're in the case, but it's like we should Lord, like he cares about what we want, yeah, right. And that's one thing I've learned about the Lord is like he cares about like our wants or desires and and what our favorite color is, what we want in a man, how we want to, you know, but it's like if it aligns with your will, Lord, is what we should be praying at the end of the day, like Lord, I want this, but it's like if it aligns with you, yeah, it's hard because we want certain things, but it's like if it's not your will, then you know what can we do about it? That's your plan. Like, you can still go forward with the things that you want. He uh for me, I believe that he will still route you to what his plans are. Yeah. So I was like talking to Rachel the other day when I was like, man, like I can go out and I can just date, you know. I can date, right? I can go and like maybe find a boyfriend, not wait on the Lord, like if I you know, I can go do things my way, but it's like I know the Lord is gonna be like, we're gonna reroute over here to my plan because you're my daughter, you are special, and I love you and I care for you too much that we're gonna, you know, correct you and and you're gonna come over here and you're you know, yeah. So um, I just thought I think that's important, like the way that we pray. Um, obviously it doesn't have to be like you know, you just be honest with the Lord, but I think it's just like making it clear, like let your will be done, God.
SPEAKER_01I think also too making that room for him to respond.
SPEAKER_00Yes, because sometimes I'll be praying and then I'm like, okay, Kenny.
SPEAKER_01I know. And it's because there will be things that like he'll show me, he goes, This is why you want this. It's actually not even that deep of a yeah, and I'm like, oh, okay, like it's he'll reveal like an insecurity or a fear. He's like, This is why you want this. It's actually not even that yeah, big of a deal. Like, you know, but um, yeah, but yeah. Um what are some things or what okay, I'm sorry. What has overthinking and the anxious anxious thoughts revealed about God's character?
SPEAKER_00Um, I just like I feel like for for me, like um, anxious thoughts has revealed about his character. So um, I just he's so merciful, like, like he's full of great like oh my gosh, how he is so full of grace.
SPEAKER_01I just caught on telling him, like, I I don't know if it was earlier today or last night, but I was like, Lord, thank you for grace. I am so undeserving of it.
SPEAKER_00Like, I think the way that his grace is so so where it says like his grace is sufficient, like I never really understood that until recently, guys. Like, obviously I knew what it meant, but it's like, no, his grace is way more than enough for you know what I mean? Like, it's actually just crazy. Like, he is just so full of grace and patience and and mercy and and the way that we just fall short every single day with our anxious thoughts, with what we do, what we say, um, our mistakes that we make as humans, and it's like wow, and he's still his grace is still sufficient for us, you know what I mean? That's why and um yeah, like he's just wow, it's just it when you really sit back and you think about that, you're just like, wow, you know?
SPEAKER_01That's so crazy.
SPEAKER_00Um, what about you?
SPEAKER_01I think the same thing. And so I I was saying that this morning. I it just and even just um it's exposed just more of his patience and more of his love and kindness. I know. Uh we'll probably never even scratch the surface and how deep his love is, um, and all that, but it's the same thing. It's just his his grace is just so yeah sufficient and never ending, and his love and his kindness. So it's just it's it really does show. Um I think I don't know if it's Romans, but I think it is where he says, um I make all things work for my good, and like that's the good. Like, you know, overthinking and anxious thoughts, they suck so bad. And I wish I wish I could just stamp my fingers and it would just shut off the like you know, we live in a fallen world and we see all these bad things, and it's you kind of can't help it. Um, but you can develop a spiritual muscle to take captive those thoughts and um things like that, but it also shows we need God like really bad. Yeah. So that would be yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, we wanted to just end the the episode encouraging you guys too with the verses that we kind of just um added on here, which again I just read this like literally seven days ago. Was first Peter 5 um seven. Yeah. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Yeah. Um, I think like it's just so like honestly, I don't know, like this this verse is so simple, but it's like he truly cares about like people can just say to say it, but if you really think about it and you really like sit there and you're like, cast all your anxieties on him because he cares for you. It's like he cares for you. You are so special to him, he loves you, and how they say, like, you know the b what is that verse? The the birds, if he thinks something about the birds, like how much more are you?
SPEAKER_01If he feeds the birds, how much more do you think he'll yeah?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it just reminds me of that. Like, he cares for you, you know, he cares for me, he cares for Tatiana, and and we all each like he cares for all of the eight billion people in this world. Um and and we each all have our own relationship with him, and and he loves us, so cast all of your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Don't think that he's gonna just overlook it. Although sometimes we could feel like that, he does it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I love that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then the second one is the Matthew 634. Do you have it up or no?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I do. Okay, you want to read it? Um, so don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today. I was reading something about this in my um devotional, and it was saying, When your mind is overwhelmed with tomorrow's thoughts, it's because you borrowed from tomorrow. So go back so so go and put them back. Back where they belong.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And again, we just we live in a fallen world. I would love to say that, you know, following Jesus, everything goes good, but that is not the case at all. But we we just live in a fallen world and there's a lot of broken people. Jasmine and I are broken people, but um and then life just gets thrown at you in different directions from different directions, and yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's good that you know things are gonna come up where you worry and overthink, but we have a God who like Jasmine was saying and um was reading in First Peter, he cares.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so he really does. Yeah. Um I'm just trying to read some of my notes here. Yeah. I just have like a lot of like writing in my Bible because I wouldn't give this to my children. I do too. Um, yeah, I love that one because like we tend to just really start thinking like 10 years down the road.
SPEAKER_01Which is so ridiculous. Like logically thinking, I'm like, why for what? But then and I'm like, why not? Like, am I gonna be married?
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna be prepared, and it's like, no. Am I gonna still make sourdough? Like, I know. Am I gonna get married? Am I gonna have my um my house that I want? Am I gonna have my sourdough? Am I gonna have my three kids, two boys and one girl?
SPEAKER_01Like, like, Lord, I just want to be productive.
SPEAKER_00Like, you just like just worry about today.
SPEAKER_01Like, you didn't have to worry about today.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's it's it's actually crazy how us as humans, like, the more we sit and think and talk about it, it's like, wow, we are so complicated.
SPEAKER_01Have you seen that movie? Um Material Girls.
SPEAKER_00Um, I probably have.
SPEAKER_01I just with the Duff Sister Taylor. Uh-huh. There's this friend. There's God's personal joke. Oh my god. I feel like with my thoughts, God's like, you're honest, you just so funny. How do we even make that up?
SPEAKER_00But it's yeah, no, we we are definitely um we're definitely um something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I heard someone say this and it works. I just need to do it more often, but it's I'm telling you, just the thoughts sometimes they get you and you're like, wow. Um, overthinking for good. Oh, that's good. It's actually it works. Good things, yeah. Like overthinking like how you do bad things, like, but just do it for good things. Oh it actually works. What's when you like intentionally sit and you can feel yourself overthinking, you're like, but what if it turns out good? Or what if this happens? What if this happens? And it totally like because you're filling that space that the enemy wants to put, but it's it's a muscle you gotta practice.
SPEAKER_00Like, so it's then I definitely have a problem. I have a lot of muscles I need to practice. All right. Wow, this is great. This is a good episode. Yeah, I love I love just chatting with you guys. We have been like so crazy, but we're gonna be back and we're consistent. And I mean, we were we were pretty consistent.
SPEAKER_01We were consistent, I just lost my voice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's just yeah, a lot of things have been kind of going on. But I believe the Lord is has good things in store for us, to be honest. So I'm excited. Yeah, and for you guys listening. Yes, for everybody, but we're gonna end a prayer and then yeah. So good. All right, Heavenly Father, thank you so much for today. Thank you for just allowing us to be here again and and record this episode, Lord, and I just pray that whoever needs to hear it is hearing you right now, and just soften their hearts and and enter their hearts, Lord. Um, I just want to lift up anybody who has anxious thoughts, Lord. Um, anything that's consuming their mind that's not supposed to, that's clouding their judgment, that's clouding their um, their mind, Lord, and just kind of um unmotivating them to do certain things or things that you want them to do, Lord. And I just pray that you clear their mind, that that fog goes away, that you just give them clear answers, Lord, and that you communicate with them clearly where they know that it's Lord, that it is our Father, um, just speaking to them and and guiding them and giving them wisdom, Jesus. I just pray that you um remind them that you are um the Prince of Peace, that you will just give them the peace that they need, that they just rely and cast all of their anxieties on you, Lord, because there is nothing too heavy for you. That is um just something that you you want to do for us, that you want to carry all of our our anxious thoughts, Lord, because you know what to do with them. We don't. And I just pray that you um fill them with your peace, your calmness, and that you just remind them anytime that they have an anxious thought of that story when they're just like rocking on the boat and his disciples are just freaking out, Lord, that you just remind them that you um will calm the storm in their life, even though things can get crazy, can get chaotic, and they could get overwhelming, Jesus. I just pray um for for you to just calm the storm in their lives and um that they just feel it, that they just feel the the boat that was rocking super crazy in their life, just begin to slowly rock and and um then really realize oh that is my God working because we serve a big loving God, and I thank you so much for that, Jesus. I thank you for all of that. I thank you for um just knowing how we feel, knowing how we feel with our anxious thoughts up late at night or with anxiety attacks, Lord. I just pray um just for anybody having anxiety attacks, um, I just like we send that to your feet, Lord, because you know where to send it in Jesus' name. That I just pray that you get rid of any anxiety attacks, anybody having any anxious thoughts, Lord, that they do not belong there, that we just send them to your feet, Lord, and that you will tell them where to go because um anxious thoughts do not belong in our minds, Lord. I just pray that you replace those thoughts with good and calming thoughts from you, Jesus. Um, and yeah, I just want to pray, head of protection over all of our followers, us, even this home, Lord, um, and their homes and their households and their cars and their families, Jesus. I just pray um that everybody continue to just seek you, Lord, um, and open up their heart their hearts to you, Jesus, a hundred percent, where you can just begin to work and and just fill them with your um your amazing peace in Jesus' name. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Amen. Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. I believe you're the Lord who was sent down um to take our sins on the cross. Um, and I welcome you into my heart. Come and live in my heart and fill me with your Holy Spirit. I make you my Lord and Savior in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Amen.
